The thread then devolved into broad recommendations like \u201cpost regularly\u201d, \u201cuse hashtags\u201d, and \u201cget the account verified\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Generic tactics like that may get you a few hundred followers but will also inevitably bring you a great deal of frustration.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Getting-Frustrated-with-Social-Media\"><\/span><strong>Getting Frustrated with Social Media<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zakandzu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Getting-frustrated-with-social-media.jpg\" alt=\"Getting frustrated with social media\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zakandzu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Getting-frustrated-with-social-media.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.zakandzu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Getting-frustrated-with-social-media-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have seen this scenario play out time and time again: A company will be on social media for a few weeks or months, blindly collect hundreds of random followers (many of whom are often spam bots), and then get frustrated when none of their \u2018followers\u2019 ever visit their website, make a purchase, or donate.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, many will just quit and say that social media is useless.<\/p>\n<p>They have lost valuable time (all of those hours spent crafting witty posts and monitoring their accounts) and maybe even money (if they paid to promote posts).<\/p>\n<p>Sure, if you\u2019re a large corporation, you can probably just re-strategize and try again.<\/p>\n<p>For a small business or nonprofit, however, there may not be enough staff or money available to try for round two.<\/p>\n<p>So do it right the first time.\u00a0<strong>Go in with a plan that is actually tied to your business goals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why-Are-You-Using-Social-Media-Anyways\"><\/span><strong>Why A<em>re<\/em>\u00a0You Using Social Media Anyways?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-297\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zakandzu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/what-are-your-social-media-goals.jpeg\" alt=\"what are your social media goals\" width=\"650\" height=\"507\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zakandzu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/what-are-your-social-media-goals.jpeg 650w, https:\/\/www.zakandzu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/what-are-your-social-media-goals-300x234.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You need followers and engagement, otherwise people won\u2019t know about your awesome company.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s not\u00a0<em>why<\/em>\u00a0business and nonprofits use social media.<\/p>\n<p>Going into Instagram with the mindset that you want more followers, comments, likes, and \u2018possibly\u2019 a few clicks to your website is a recipe for disaster. I don\u2019t know about you, but no one has ever paid me a penny for getting more followers (I\u2019m not a Kardashian).<\/p>\n<p>A nonprofit\u2019s underlying marketing goals are to\u00a0<strong>get donations, raise awareness about a topic by having people share something, and perhaps sell a product or service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There is also the benefit of branding, learning about and interacting with your customers\/donors, and keeping tabs on industry trends as well as your competitors.<\/p>\n<p>Your social media marketing strategy should be based on these things, and you should look for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bloggerjet.com\/100-true-followers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">followers who are most likely to engage in desired behaviors<\/a>.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Crafting-a-Winning-Social-Media-Strategy\"><\/span><strong>Crafting a Winning Social Media Strategy<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Okay, you\u2019re ready to build your strategy. What now?<\/p>\n<p>Start by thinking of what challenges your business is facing (such as a drop in website visitors, customer retention, or brand perception) and what opportunities social media may present for you (such as gaining access to a new customer pool in another country). This will help you clarify your goals.<\/p>\n<p>Then ask yourself these 3 questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Who are my customers (think of their demographics, behaviors, beliefs, and values)?<\/li>\n<li>What do I want my customers to do (e.g. buy, donate, raise awareness)?<\/li>\n<li>Where do my customers hang out online (e.g. Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Quora&#8230;)?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are the foundations of any good social media strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have established a clear reason for\u00a0<em>why<\/em>\u00a0you are using social media and answered the 3 questions above,\u00a0<em>then<\/em> you can start asking \u201chow do I get more followers\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If your goal with social media is to just get as many likes, comments, and followers as possible, then you are setting yourself up to waste a lot of time and money.
